Our History
Elgin Parent Co-op School (EPCS) began as a playgroup, formed by parents whose child had been enrolled in a similar program in San Francisco. A group of parents discussed, planned, and publicized their interests.
They held bake sales and garage sales so that the school could rent a space in the basement of Grace United Methodist Church, where the preschool was established in 1970. In the summer of 2003, the school moved to the First Presbyterian Church.
For more than forty-five years, each EPCS family has worked extremely hard to make the school a wonderful place to learn and grow. Some of the founding parents continue to support our school in a variety of ways, and the school holds anniversary parties every five years so that our old friends can keep in touch. If you are an EPCS family or friend, please contact us and “LIKE” us on Facebook to stay informed about the school.
Today, there are 20 member families and hundreds of alumni families. The current membership and staff are proud to be part of this great Elgin tradition, and are dedicated to the continued growth and improvement of the Elgin Parent Co-op School.
